The X Factor- Andrea Faustini- represented

Andres Faustini is from Rome, Italy. He decided to perform on the UK X factor. To start of with Andrea is represented as a joke and the judges and other contestants believe he is not serious about his singing and believe he is only coming on the show to be on TV and to be seen. This shows that the show is not just to find someone who can sing but have to have a good appearance, this is shown as the judges are judging him based on his appearance and not his voice. Everyone is laughing and judging him before he has even started singing. One reason this reaction is from the way Andrea acts when talking in his clip, to the judges and other contestants. This is in a cheery and happy manner. Also because of the way he is dressed. This is a signifier. The way Andrea's talks about his love for 'PUGS' and shown from his top/ jumper, gives the representation that he is seen as a joke and a character. The mediation of this is the camera shots that have been shown, these shots are of Andrea's joking about and talking about his love for pugs and how much it would mean to him if he won the x factor. This makes the audience and other contestants laugh as they believe he will not get through to the next round. These shots create an assumption for the audience and the contestants. Everyone is proved wrong including the judges once Andrea's starts singing and proves he can and is good at singing.

Class:

Mr President Obama

This article is showing that class doesn't really matter. This is give a negative representation for the President. However this is showing that how ever high up you are or whether you are upper class or underclass, you are only able to go in if you're a member. the President was spoke about in a negative way and although he is the President he does not get special treatment. It shows that Barack Obama and his family did not get to stay the night in the West Chester Country in New York and ended up returning to the White house. lastly the article shows that Barack Obama ended up golfing at his customary course on the grounds of the Fort Belvoir military installation in Virginia the next day.

Gender:

The Only Way Is Essex

In this clip off the only way is essex, gender is represented in a variety of ways. Women are represented as the most powerful gender between men and women, this is shown as Gemma is seen confronting Arg about the things he has said, this shows Arg being left speechless and not knowing what to say a couple of times. Another way in which gender is represented is at the end of the clip when Gemma walks off from Arg with all the attention on her and everybody cheering and clapping. Lastly women are seen as the most powerful type and this clip shows it by the different type of shots and camera angles. Camera angles demonstrate this by Arg being in the pool and Gemma on the side, which gives the impression that Arg is looking up to Gemma being the powerful one, being the bigger, stronger one and the one in control. This makes Arg look small and overpowered. Gemma also describes herself as 'sexy' and 'beautiful' this gives the idea to the audience preferably women that everyone is beautiful in there own way and should not listen to anyone who puts them down.

Rope Scene

In this clip from Grown Ups, age is represented differently to what is expected from people at a certain age. This shows middle aged men being immature and joking around. It shows a middle aged man attempting to swing from a rope into a lake and the other men encouraging him to do it. This is in front of their children which does not give a very good impression of what they should and shouldn't do. In this scene the adults are seen as the immature age and the children are represented as the responsibly age as they are the ones who do not do any. By the other adults encouraging the man to swing of the rope into the lake it is showing the children that what they are doing is ok and not dangerous. This is giving the impression that they do not know when something is wrong and right and do not understand what they are doing may influence their children as they look at them as role models.

Race:
Coronation Street- Lloyd racially assaulted

In this clip from Coronation Street, Race is represented in a negative way. It shows someone being treated differently because of their race and the way they are getting treated is based on their race. It shows Lloyd getting threatened and being grouped against by different men. It shows one of the men, most likely the leader being disrespectful and rude about his race. This is shown as when Lloyd says; 'Now I want to go home' he is then answered back with: 'Where will that be then, Jamaica' This is purposely directing at his race. Stating he does not belong his as well as not being allowed or as the other man says, he does not belong or wanted in the pub. He is then targeted by being told he is not allowed in HIS pub and is not allowed to talk to HIS women. He then threatens him one last time, saying he never wants to see him near his pub again. This shows he is targeting and threatening him based on his race as he is not targeting anyone else and is not saying anything to any other men in the pub. It shows these men not approving of a Guyanese and White Irish Descent taking to the white women in the pub.


Sexuality:
Eastenders- Johnny coming out

In this clip from Eastenders, sexuality is represented in a positive way. Johnny is reassured by his father after admitting being gay. It shows Johnny not really understanding that its not a bad things as he believes and uses the words; 'It not normal, its unnatural', it then shows his father comforting him telling him that he can not choose his sexuality, it is normal. This relates to real life situations as it shows Johnny struggling to admit being gay to not only his father but to himself, other people can relate to this as they may also find it difficult to admit being gay. Following clips show the parents having different opinions to this and reacting differently. It shows the male character accepting his sons sexuality where as his mother, the female character finding it difficult to accept and deal with. It may suggests male characters have an easier time understanding their children coming out than the female characters. This shows as in further clips she uses the words; 'My son is not like that'.
